An Untitled Poem

24 July 2006

Most cats will form packs in the wild
Within a pack, the cats align
Each bound in strictly ordered role,
                  Less nature-ruled than self-imposed

All offspring must be trained while young:
Unless the urge to go alone
Gets checked by social pressure, it
Has power to infect the pack.

An errant kitten threatens all.

The best gain comes when they must rush
Like lions to the slaughter, all
Except the misfits and the first
                  Mistaking blind belief for thought.

It stuns the prey to sense nor fear,
Nor slacking pace amongst the cats.
Good trade? It matters not: the prey
                  Sinks 'neath their digits unopposed.
